Ward Campout 2011

Last night was the Ward Campout. We had one planned in the Spring but it was rained out so we rescheduled for this weekend. We got there right before the sun went down and got the tent set up. Halle didn't understand what was going on at first but she soon realized that her friends were there too and that she was free to roam and explore. We had a bonfire. We ate roasted marshmallows. The girls went on mini "hayrides" given by the older kids.

After the kids went to bed, the adults sat around the fire and talked and played Catch Phrase. We had a countdown until 11:11:11 on 11/11/11, and eventually I went to bed. Unfortunately our air mattress has a slow leak and by the time I went to bed it was already deflating. I spent the night tossing & turning, with my shoulders and hips digging into the ground. Didn't get a whole lot of sleep and I'm paying for it today, but it was TOTALLY worth it, because we made a lot of memories and Halle loved every minute.

We woke up to extremely chilly weather and crazy bedhead hair, but the fire was still going, so we went to warm up next to it. The ward provided a delicious breakfast of pancakes & eggs, and then we packed up our things. I thought we would probably leave right away to go home and get some real rest, but instead of departing, we joined in on an impromptu game of Ultimate Frisbee. It was probably a funny sight to see me (6 months pregnant) and my friend Amy (7 months pregnant) running around trying to catch the frisbee and defend against younger teenage opponents. But I had a blast. It reminded me of younger days and made me feel more motivated to get back into shape after this pregnancy.

Despite the lack of sleep last night, I would totally go camping again next week if the opportunity presented itself. What a fun time, and good memories. I really love our ward and the friends that we have here. Halle's lucky to have so many other toddlers her age to play with. We feel very blessed right now. Life is good.

Do you have any video of the ultimate frisbee? I'd love to see some footage of my Janey-go-for-it-girl running around during the third trimester... (proud smile) Good to see that you're getting Jackson an early start on the sporting life.

And I'm glad you enjoyed the campout, despite the leaking mattress...
